Monica, O My Darling Review : A movie with wobbly storyline with extra ordinary execution

Monica O My Darling Review
Monica O My Darling

Monica, O My Darling is a recently released Bollywood film on Netflix. The film is directed by Vasan Bala starring Rajkumar Rao, Huma Qureshi, Radhika Apte, and Hitesh Gotarne. The last few movies of Rajkumar Rao are not going in his favor but this one is the perfect delivery to his fans. There is nothing extraordinary in the storyline but the execution is so meticulously done that cinematography, dialogues, cast selection, and background music make the movie interesting. In this article of Updatevilla, we will have Monica, O My Darling Review, Cast, Plot Summary Where to watch, and More.

It is also reported that the film is the adaptation of the Japanese Novel Heart of Brutus released in 1989. However, the movie is receiving a lot of positive reviews and has a 7.9/10 rating on IMDb to date. The film is produced by Sarita Patil, Sanjay Routray, Diksha Jyoti Routray, and Vishal Bajaj under the banner of MatchBox Shots. If you have previously watched movies of Vasan Bala like Mard ko Dard Nahi Hota you may relate to the comedy, drama, and retro references. The OTT platform Netflix started the stream of the movie on 11th November 2022. The movie is a little bit wobbly in storytelling but it has enough substance to enjoy the movie.

Monica, O My Darling Review

The film begins with a high-tech robot scene where a robot killed a person in some extraordinary fashion believe me this starting will give you goosebumps. The plot swings like a pendulum with twists and turns where Rajkumar Rao as Jayant is the center of attraction. Huma Qureshi as Monica is the perfect justice to the character. Jayant a robotic genius coming from a very low background founds himself accused of the murder of a few people. Now he is on the way to proving himself innocent to everyone. Radhika Apte as ACP Naidu is just perfect, she does not have much involvement in the storyline but whenever she appears her character is just amazing.

The movie director must be given credit for bringing this simple storyline in with great execution. Vasan Bala just proved low budget movies can be outstanding if cinematography, Visuals, Humour, and directions are correctly done. The background music is used so wisely that they are only present where required not pushed forcefully. The fusion of suspense erupts continuously throughout the movie and raises the conflict to decide who is the person behind all these murders.

Monica, O My Darling Review: Positives

  • The Selection of the cast seems to be perfect, each and every character are justified.
  • The pop culture reference and the background at perfect times will hit dopamine in mind.
  • The jaw-dropping suspense and plot twist in between the movie till the end.
  • The cinematography and humor must be appreciated.

Monica, O My Darling Review: Negatives

  • Personally, I feel If there would be more time given to the character of Radhika Apte it would bring more dished to the plate.
  • Initial half an hour the film have a little weak narrative and flat sequences going on but this won’t affect the pace of the movie.
